Lionfish were accidentally introduced into the Atlantic Ocean in the early 2000s. Since they have no natural predators, feast on juvenile fish, and compete with finally-recovering grouper species, Bermuda has high hopes that its fishing industry can help cull the population. Tournaments, research organizations, and special diving licenses have been put into place to help protect the reefs.
