Mustard Hill Coral (Porites astreoides)
P. astreoides is one of the most common reef building corals found in Bermuda. They feed primarily at night, opening up polyps to catch zooplankton and bacteria from the water column. The coral’s tentacles and mesentary filaments grab and transport unsuspecting morsels to the mouth, where mucus full of a carbohydrate-protein complex helps it to ingest. Mmm….
